the shades song – beach version
The beach version of The Shades Song came to life almost entirely by accident during our 2026 tour through the Balkans.
Andrej, a local filmmaker in Montenegro, reached out and offered to shoot a music video with us simply because he liked what we were doing. With little time before our gig in Budva, we wandered the old town and filmed a few spontaneous scenes. We loved what he captured, but it felt more like a beautiful snapshot than a complete video.
Since our route would bring us back through Montenegro after travelling towards Athens, we decided to meet again and turn the idea into a proper music video. That left us with one important question: which song would fit those beaches, warm evenings and clear blue water?
We had always imagined The Shades Song living in different forms, and suddenly the answer felt obvious. We would make a beach version.
Between gigs, borders and the excitement and exhaustion of our first Balkan tour, we rearranged the song. The guitar moved high up the neck for an almost ukulele-like sound, while softer vocals, warm harmonies and gentle percussion gave it space to breathe.
Back in Montenegro, we recorded a demo in the van for the shoot. Most of it stayed in the final song because it already had that special feeling. A few days later, beneath one of the most beautiful sunsets we had ever seen, friends and music lovers from our Budva shows joined us on the beach for the video. In that moment, everything came together: the sea, the music, the people and the fading light. It was one of those evenings that felt bigger than anything we could ever have dreamed of, and one we will never forget.
The beach version carries all of that with it: the adventure, the tired eyes, the sea air, the people we met and the feeling of watching a familiar song turn into something completely new.
A little softer. A little sunnier. Still unmistakably The Shades Song.
