The Shades Song

The Shades Song actually started as a half-forgotten scribble pulled out of a drawer right before our first tour in 2023. It was just a fun little piece we dusted off to add an extra song to the setlist. Sina threw in a melodica hook, we added a few new verses and a bridge, and off we went.

When we hit the road, the crowd suddenly started singing it back to us from the very first chorus. Once we felt that contagious vibe, we began bringing sunglasses to gigs, passing them out during the song, and the whole place would turn into this ridiculous, beautiful sea of shades and smiles.

We’d always played The Shades Song acoustically on the road before it turned into this version. In early 2025, we took it to the studio just to fiddle around, recording first-and-only takes in one afternoon with an electric guitar that had rusty strings and whatever instruments we had at hand, meant as a demo. But when we listened back a week later, it had the exact same energy we feel when everyone in the crowd sings with their shades on, and it turns into this wonderful community moment. The audience made this song what it is today, bigger than we ever expected, and that love for all of you is all over this recording.

So let’s never grow up the way we’re supposed to, stay true to ourselves no matter what other people say, and always, always keep your shades on.
