From Gigs to Quiet Streets: The Charm of Sunday Mornings

There’s something truly magical about Sunday mornings in a new city, especially when you’re on tour. The streets, usually bustling with activity, are suddenly quiet, bathed in the soft light of dawn. It’s as if the city belongs to you alone, inviting you to discover its treasures and recharge after the excitement of the previous night’s performance.

One of our favorite rituals on these peaceful mornings is to set out early and uncover the city’s hidden gems. Whether we’re wandering down cobblestone streets still glistening from the night’s rain or settling into a quiet park for breakfast, there’s always a new story waiting to be told, a new piece of the world to experience.

Belfast’s Morning Canvas: History Meets Street Art: One of our most memorable Sunday mornings was in Belfast during our 2023 tour. After a gig that coincided with the coronation parade—a vibrant yet socially charged event—we awoke to sunny Belfast, which revealed its diverse and stunning beauty. We spent the morning exploring the city, admiring the Freedom Walls and the rich array of street art. This experience highlighted the contrast between Belfast’s complex past and its vibrant present, leaving a deep impression on us. The locals‘ warmth and the city’s beauty made this morning unforgettable.

Liverpool – Flavors of Music City: In cities like Liverpool, our Sunday explorations have taken on a life of their own. We’ve found ourselves ordering leftover food from local eateries via apps, turning an ordinary morning into a spontaneous adventure. Picture this: a cold, rainy morning in Liverpool, huddled under an awning with an outstanding view enjoying a warm meal. These impromptu picnics in scenic spots around the city add an extra layer of excitement to our exploration, allowing us to savor the flavors of the city while basking in its beauty.

Checking out the Cavern Quarter one more time, absorbing the history of the Beatles, feeling inspired to pour that same passion into our music. These are the moments that shape us.

And through it all, we’re still trying to realize that we performed at this iconic place just the night before.

These are the moments that make us realize—we are indeed living our dreams. Being grateful for life and thankful for all the wonderful people that make our journey more special every day.

Dawn in Lucerne: From Carnival Colors to Italy’s Postcard Beauty: Sometimes, though, these mornings deliver more than we could ever expect. Take our recent experience in Lucerne, Switzerland. We were jolted awake well before dawn by the clatter of a truck unloading right next to our van. Instead of rolling over and trying to reclaim sleep, we decided to embrace the early hour. What we thought would be a quiet morning exploration turned into an unforgettable dive into the start of carnival season. As we stepped into the streets, we found ourselves in a sea of vibrant costumes and lively celebrations—a colorful, unexpected gift from the road.

The adventure continued as we left Lucerne, driving through the breathtaking landscapes of southern Switzerland towards the Italian border. Our stop at a charming osteria was meant to be brief, just a quick visit to drop off some posters. But it turned into so much more. The Osteria, with its ’60s vibe and modern touches, was an absolutely unique spot offering an outstanding selection of craft beers and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Beyond that, it was a creative hub that included a music school, a bakery, and a circus training facility. Meeting the owner and exploring this eclectic space was a delightful detour, highlighting the sense of interconnected communities and creativity that enriches our travels.

As we crossed into northern Italy, the scenery shifted to something almost dreamlike—palm trees swaying in the breeze, and picturesque villages lining the shores of Lake Maggiore. It was a scene straight out of a postcard, yet there we were, living it, soaking in the tranquility and beauty that only comes when you step off the beaten path and allow yourself to be swept away by the journey.

With Open Eyes and Open Hearts: So here’s to Sunday mornings on the road—each one a unique blend of adventure, discovery, and the quiet promise of new beginnings. They are the moments that remind us why we do what we do, why we travel from city to city, sharing our music and our lives with the world.
